Medication Management

Some disorders require a two-part approach for successful treatment: medication combined with therapy or counseling.  Once evaluated, our practitioner can prescribe medication to help with many diagnoses, from ADHD to anxiety and depression.  Medication management is a vital part of this equation, as not all medications are recommended, received, or tolerated in the same way.  Our mental well-being is directly connected to our overall physical health. Monitoring medications, their side effects, and their possible interactions with other medications is critical to mental and physical wellness, and understanding what medication management means is key to feeling comfortable with the recommended treatment plan.

Nurse Lorraine performs a thorough assessment on all medication management referrals, which will include an overview of your symptoms, collection of your medical history, and a review of any diagnoses you may have already received.  If a determination for medication is reached, it is initially prescribed for a trial period to observe and monitor its effectiveness.   In addition to medication, other forms of treatment such as counseling, life management skills, and behavioral therapies may be recommended.  Dr. Mike and Nurse Lorraine will collaborate to carefully monitor all of the components of your treatment plan to ensure the best blend for your overall health and wellness.

It is very important to note that not all people, including those who present mental or emotional problems, require or receive medication.  Although medication can be an effective part of the treatment of many illnesses, it is not required for all.  Some examples of diagnoses where prescription medication is recommended to relieve symptoms are:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Panic
  • Sleep Problems
  • ADHD
  • Schizophrenia
